The Datathief is used to both steal data from a certain object or unlock doors and open paths. While in use, blue blocks (i.c.e. blocks) will jump on its screen with a white block  which moves in a circular motion, if you strike a blue block or two at the right time , the white block moves in  a circle and speeds up rotation.If you hit the block at the wrong time,  the white block gets bounced back a circle and you have to start again.

A datathief can work on most common and more advanced systems. However some high-end systems with extra security (such as Miranda Sturgis's home computer) would fry the device.
